Night of the Hunter is playing at my local second run movie theater. Robert Mitchum dresses like a Kentucky colonel. I could not stop thinking about chicken the whole movie.

Someone painted Peter the Great in a great suit of armor. I’d like to know if he ever actually donned a suit of armor, even for the sake of the portrait.

Today in 1977, Star Wars was first released! In honor of this auspicious day, I wanted to find a Star Wars character of whom I had not yet made an egg. Our answer comes in the form of Jek “Red 6” Porkins, also known as the first casualty on the Death Star run. You may also remember him as Major Eaton from Raiders of the Lost Ark. He was the guy who said “Top. Men.”

Bonnie and Clyde

Today in 1934, Bonnie and Clyde were gunned down by police. I have a fondness for the pair because in third grade, I did my Women’s History report on Bonnie Parker. I remember typing the report on an actual typewriter, as this was before my family had a computer. In addition to the typed report, I included a crude drawing of Bonnie Parker firing a comically large gun and murdering someone. This was straight out of my imagination and could not have possibly served to educate anyone.

A pun on Vasco Da Gama’s name could serve as a fine brand name for any product. “Tabasco Da Gama” and “Vasco Da Gumma” are two ideas. Actually the only ideas I had.

In almost every picture of Ian Curtis, he looks very tired, punctuated by a picture of him shooting invisible lasers out of his eyes.

The plight of screwed-over Motown artists¬†frightens me. Here are these terribly talented folks who finally break into the industry, a feat that cannot be easy to achieve in the first place, and their talent and work ethic isn’t enough to navigate the Machiavellian snake pit that is the record industry.¬†I’m not going to say that I relate on the same level as these singers, but their stories certainly terrify me as a comic-book artist.
