Marie Besnard

I researched Marie Besnard, a woman accused of serial poisoning. I like how heavy handed terms like “supposedly” and “apparently” can be.At times it seems like they could be substituted for an ellipsis and “DON DON DON!”.

Marie Curie

Marie Curie, pioneer in radiology, discoverer of elements, had some pretty cavalier lab practices. At the time she was doing her research, no one knew how harmful radiation could be to the human body, so she’d carry test tubes with isotopes in her lab coat pocket, and leave them in her desk draw. She also performed x-rays on wounded WWI soldiers without proper shielding. While it stinks that she died as a result of her dedication to researching radioactive material, it’s also pretty rock and roll.

Emil Jellenik-Mercedes

Emil Jellenik had a pretty cool CAReer (I’ll assume that you all clapped at that marvelous pun). He was a diplomat, an insurance salesman, then a car manufacturer. I hope that, without having to be an insurance salesman, I can have a similarly storied life. Though if having a boring life means that I’d be happier, I think I’d go for that. Jeez, I got myself into an existential crisis awfully quick. A new record!
