Richard E. Byrd

Richard E. Byrd has to be the luckiest dude alive as far as names go. To be a pilot with the last name Byrd? It’s like the days of yesteryear when people named Smith were black smiths or silver smiths. Remember in Seinfeld when the library detective was named ‘Bookman’, then Kramer said “that’s incredible. That’s like an ice-cream man named cone”.

Steve Buscemi needs to play Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. in a movie at some point. I have never seen a stronger resemblance between two people except maybe between that painting of Paul Revere and Jack Black.

(Apologies again for the lateness of this egg)

If you’re going to have sculpture made of your likeness, look to Yuri Gagarin’s. The sculptors apparently combined Superman and art deco styles into monument that’s super cool, yet astonishingly tasteful. Soviet sculpture in the 60s is where it’s at.
